A1 / A2 test

If you have arrived in Denmark recently, chances are you will be required to take one or two language level tests to prove, that you are learning the Danish language. The first of these tests is called the A1 test, named after the first level on the CEFR-scale, which goes from A1-C2. The second is called the A2 test, which is then the next level. So these are both very basic language level tests, and they both rely purely on oral communication and listening comprehension, so no reading or writing.

You can find all of the necessary information about these tests on the website of the migration authorities in either DANISH or ENGLISH. Those pages also provide audio files with examples of the questions you might be asked for the A1 and A2 tests.

A1

The A1 test takes about 20 minutes to complete, it consists of 30 questions, and you must answer 21 of those correctly in order to pass. You must pass this test within the first 6-9 months of being in Denmark. You can read more about it here. This page provides some audio examples, and someone has been nice enough to provide them with subtitles and share them on Youtube, as you can see in the two videos below.

As you can hear and see, all of the answers are given right there in the audio. What you have to do, is study enough to be able to understand through listening comprehension.

A2

The A2 test is similar to the A1 test, but it takes about 25 minutes to complete. The A2 also consists of 30 questions, and here you must also answer 21 of those correctly in order to pass. You can read more about it here. This page provides some audio examples, and someone has been nice enough to provide them with subtitles and share them on Youtube, as you can see in the three videos below. Again, all of the answers are right there in the questions to the trained ear.
